God I wish I could figure out all this stuff... I miss having a personal Facebook page... They told me after 5000 "friends" I needed a fan page ... now I miss having a regular page where I can communicate with my pal old and new... Trying to set up a new personal page... So far no success... Much love to whoever reads this!

Here comes another gig…playing with Jonny Rosch at the P&G Tuesday night ..(24th of May)….make it if you can!
How do you get to Carnegie Hall?
The best way is to get to play with James Taylor...April 20th to be precise. JT is doing a night of songs that
influenced him as he was growing up, which is the same music I was listening to...some country, some folk, some blues, some r&b, some standards.....lots of great musicians on this gig, including his regular touring band plus
some great Nashville cats, like Jerry Douglas, Vince Gill, Alison Krause...gonna be a great evening and I’m proud to be a part of it! Hope to see ya there...
Gonna be playing Tuesday March 22 with Jonny Rosch at the P&G bar on the upper west side of NYC...same band as played Iridium last month.. Love these cats! Also it looks like I'll be participating in the James Taylor series of gigs at Carnegie Hall in April...always love playing music with my old and dear friend. I'll be telling some more stories from the halcyon days of rock...as soon as I can remember them! So many great stories but I have to be cautious, ya know?
We played our first show last night! What a gas to play with these wonderful musicians! It seemed like the crowd dug it...can't wait to do more of this stuff. The set list ...Too Many Irons in the Fire (Fab T birds),Machine Gun Kelly (JT),Not Drinking enough (Henley),Lost In the Shuffle(second solo album, NY Minute (Henley),Honey, Don’t Leave LA (JT) God Make Me Good (new unrecorded),Dirty Laundry(Henley),All She Wants to do is Dance(Henley, Shakytown (Jackson)...all written or co-written by, well.......ME! HA!
Coming up on gig time...I'll be playing Iridium feb 24 and 25 with a first class band...Jonny Rosch on keys and vox, Neil Jason on bass and Shawn Pelton on drums....I'll be doing a bunch of originals from various stages of my endless career ...jeez! Come down 'cause we'll be rockin...
Sundance Film Fest
Not that I got to see too much of it...I’m here with Carole and Lee to help promote a film called "Troubadours', about singer-songwriters..Actually quite good! Haven’t seen much of Park City except a lot of snow and about a million condo's...tonight we do a short set at a club...always great to play with my dear friends..I really miss everyone from the tour last spring/summer...I wish we could have kept going, but nothing lasts forever. I'm having a ball playing my tunes with all the cool cats in NYC and CT... An ongoing search for the thrill of playing with a great band!
So Dig.....looks like I'm gonna do a gig in NYC..at Iridium,51st and Bway...Feb 24 and 25...kinda scary! I'll be doing tunes I wrote or co-wrote...like "Honey don't leave LA" and "Shakytown" and "Dirty Laundry", etc...The band is some of the best cats in NYC..Neil Jason on bass, Jonny Rosch, keys and vox and Shawn Pelton, drums and samples and loops...it's been sounding great in rehearsal....come and see for yourself. If you're in NYC please come by and say hello...we will be rockin'!
Hey! I’ve been hanging with my beautiful girls for the holidays and getting ready for '11....exploring more live gigs featuring my originals in the northeast....I'm pretty sure I'm going to Park City at the end of Jan. to play a few tunes with Carole and Leland...a doc was made called "Troubadours" about the attack of the singer/songwriters in the 70's and their favorite hang, The Troubadour in west LA...The film is being shown at the Sundance film festival ....we're going to play a private affair to promote the film. Always cool to play with my dear pals of course.
I gotta get more stuff going on this site.. About to do an update of the whole deal...also about to put more music up on the site ...pix too. Thanks for visiting me.. I’m gonna tell some more stories from the days of yore (or yo!) so hang with me. Gonna play with cool cat Jonny Rosch Dec 14th at the P&G in NYC...78th and Columbus, I think...come say hello! More later!
Music in NYC
It’s amazing how much great music is going on in NYC (and probably everywhere) on any given week. Since there’s no more mainstream, it’s up to the individual to find this stuff, or recognize it when it comes along. Here’s what I was digging. Plastic Bucket Guy... not just any bucket guy but the BEST I ever heard..He had a variety of found items arranged where he could get to them with mismatched sticks..A tin can and a few plastic buckets
Stuff to Come
Yo! I'll be announcing gigs when they are firm...playing up in northern CT with Tim McDonald and some fine players...original tunes. Also jamming in NYC with some pals....I'll let you know. Still working on recording my own versions of tunes I wrote that have been recorded by some of my amazingly talented friends....like Henley, JT, Jackson and more. I'll post them when I deem them worthy.
John-John of the King Bees
Johnny McDuffy was the lead singer and played keyboards with the King Bees, my first band. Now, I lived out in the suburbs of NYC with my family...after High School I knew I had to start a band...the 60's,ya know! Richard Frank, my school buddy and fellow music fanatic was in. Then, our housekeeper Fanny Kelly said she knew of this young man who was a friend of a friend in Harlem who could play and sing and was said to be really talented.
King Bees tunes and general overview pt 1
Well...I just straightened out my music box page...On it you will find several King Bees tracks recorded in the 60's....maximum R&B! Johnny McDuffy is in full cry as you will hear..That is my first band! We actually were really good, with an authentic "Black Guy" lead singer....I could never decide whether I wanted to be in the Kinks or Wilson Pickett's band...I was being influenced by all the great music of the 60's, equally by Curtis Mayfield and Procol Harum and The Byrds....and of course Beatles and Stones...a heady time to be playing music.
The King Bees in NYC
Soon it will be time to tell everything I can remember about my first band, the King Bees. We played around New York in '65,66...Dickie Frank was the other guitar player...we had gone to High School together in Mamaroneck, NY, home of......nothing! But Dickie had great taste and he turned me on to lots of great stuff like The Staple Singers and the Hiway QC's and Carl Perkins, Buck Owens, Lonnie Mack...we hung out and played together a lot. Dickie saw life differently than me...probably less spoiled a kid...One day he showed up with a brand new Supro guitar....bursting with pride
I'm still working out how to post stuff on the site, because I'm a Luddite when it comes to new social media...but I’m learning. Please let me know if everything is coming up like it oughta!
There were many guitar players and friends of friends coming by to say hello to Jeff….who was polite but indifferent…he was there to play. Only 2 events
So….now we have the band …engineer is Robbie Jacobs-one of the very best…trained by the great Shelley Yakus. All the cats that came out of A&M when Shelly and J Iovinne were in charge, were first class…but that's another story…
The saga of "Blaze OF Glory, pt 1
So...it's been 20 years since the making of Jon Bon Jovi's first solo album, Blaze of Glory. Who cares, right? Well, it’s a good story because of the people involved and because it was made "old style”. Great musicians all playing together in the studio, 2 or 3 tracks a day.
Latest from after the tour!
Well...I'm finally getting used to being off the road. We has such a ball on the TRT that civilian life is hard to get used to...but now I'm planning my next moves...gonna be playing with my cats up here in northern CT, and looking to do some gigs in NYC as well. I’ll post info when I know some dates. Also recording my tunes that were done by some of the great people I worked with...I'll post those too, when they're ready. Thanks for all the kind words and support from all of you!
Wow...it's so hard to write about this tour while it's happening...too much input! This is the most incredible musical event I have ever been part of, and it's hard to be a participant and a spectator at the same time. I will write more when the tour is over and I have had time to digest it. Like all tours, it’s the bus to the venue to the hotel for a few hours’ sleep, back on the bus and off to the next gig. Did I mention the hotel bar? Russ and I are making some tentative plans for after the tour...we want to be working on projects together.
On the road
We started the stateside part of the TRT tour by rehearsing in Boise for a few days because of the elaborate stage...check out the TRT reunion website for a clue....the stage is in the round and took dome getting used to, but hey! It’d not like we never played this music before...then Portland, then Seattle...HUGE reception for JT and CK...I think there is a longing not just for nostalgia, but that which is authentic....we have plenty of artifice in our lives so JT and CK's music has even more power than it first did....time is a motherfucker!
So different being down here...for one thing, there isn't the constant political upheaval like in the states...you get the sense people of different political views don't hate each other like we do ...a lot to be learned from the Aussies in that regard...maybe it's because aussie football is the most brutal sport ever!
It's great to be out in L.A. playing music with some of my favorite people in the world! This JT/CK tour, known as the Troubadour reunion Tour, is gonna be a great gig....every song is absolutely a gem, and It's a wonderful thing to be playing these tunes every day...every once in a while we'll be playing one of these tunes and I'll get a flash on the first time I heard it and how much it hit me! Like Country Road...I still remember James playing that tune right after he wrote it, and it still gives me the same indescribable feeling now. Cool!
The Fugs at the Pentagon
Here's a story from the swinging sixties for ya - remember, this is from my memory bank so others may have a different recollection...but hey! This is my version.
Latest news...Jan 11th,'10
So...My band in northern CT is playing Saturday jan.16th at Avon Old Farm...come and say hello! We play a lot of my originals, plus some cool covers - Tim McDonald is in the band playing guitar and singing...he's just great at both! Also, Jon Peckman and Ed Corvo on drums and bass. Really good musicians and we have a lot of fun doing it! Band is called Dirty Laundry!
I've been playing the Godin 5th Ave guitar and loving it..Really cool guitar!
Getting my gear together for the JT/Carole tour...mostly Fender gear but I might be using some Taylor gtrs as well. Been going over the set list and re-learning some older Carole and James tunes...great stuff
Yes, there will be a world tour...JT/Carole King, with the original band..Russ Kunkel, Lee Sklar and ....me! Cool, huh? I am so looking forward to this world tour, which starts in New Zealand in late march. We will be touring the states starting in May...this is going to be a hell of a show, because every song will be something you know and love, or something you should know and love! We are stoked!
